Ballet Jacchigua

Quito

Overview

Pre-booking required

Highlights:

  • Experience a spectacular performance by Ecuador's premier folkloric ballet.

Spend an evening discovering Ecuador’s rich cultural heritage with a performance by Ballet Jacchigua, one of the country’s most celebrated folk ballet companies. Officially recognised as a Living Cultural Heritage of Ecuador, the company was founded by choreographer Rafael Camino Collantes and is known for bringing to life the traditions, rituals and spiritual beliefs of Ecuador’s indigenous Andean communities through music, dance and costume.

Performing at Plaza Belmonte, Quito’s historic bullring in the heart of the city, the two-hour show features a large cast of dancers and musicians presenting choreographies inspired by celebrations and customs from across the Ecuadorian highlands, including the colourful Inti Raymi festival. Accompanied by live music and traditional dress, this is a vibrant introduction to the folklore and cultural identity of the Andes.
