This excursion offers a great way to travel to the top of New Zealand to experience its beauty, history and scenery. Not only does it avoid you needing to take a relatively long road trip, but you get to experience Cape Reinga from the air and on land.
Experience the northern tip of New Zealand by air and by land, combining a scenic flight from the Bay of Islands with a coach tour around the Cape Reinga region. Fly north for around 45 minutes, passing over Northland’s harbours and coastline, including Whangaroa Harbour, Rangaunu Harbour, Doubtless Bay and Ninety Mile Beach.
Land at an airfield around 20km from Cape Reinga, then continue by coach to the Cape Reinga Lighthouse, where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. Visit Tapotupotu Bay for a light refreshment and beach walk, before continuing to the Te Paki Stream and its large sand dunes, where sleds are available for sandboarding.
On the return flight, take in views of the remote Parengarenga Harbour and Great Exhibition Bay, known for its white silica sand and clear waters. Continue over Houhora Harbour, the Cavalli Islands, Kauri Cliffs and the Bay of Islands before returning.
