Introduction
Located in the northern Indian state of Punjab, Amritsar was established in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Ram Das. Home to the magnificent Golden Temple, Sikhism’s holiest shrine and a worthy rival to the Taj Mahal as India’s most spectacular monument, Amritsar offers a beautiful blend of culture, history and tradition.
This holiday extension is available to add to the end of our Golden Triangle & Ranthambore, Indian Wildlife Adventure, Deccan Odyssey’s Grand Heritage and The Brahmaputra River & Darjeeling tours. Exact travel arrangements to/from Amritsar will be confirmed at the time of booking and may vary depening on the tour you are joining from.
Itinerary
Day 1: Amritsar, 2 nights
Today, we travel to Amritsar. Your travel arrangements will vary depending on your location. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel, the impressive Hyatt Regency Amritsar, which will be our home for the next two nights.

Day 2: Amritsar
After breakfast, we begin our sightseeing tour with a visit to Jallianwala Bagh, a historic garden and memorial, remembering those who lost their lives here in 1919. We continue to the magnificent Golden Temple, one of the most spiritual places in India. Explore the complex, including the incredible community kitchens which produce up to 20,000 meals per day, all prepared by local volunteers. Our morning finishes at the Partition Museum, where we gain insight through oral histories, personal artefacts, letters, photographs, and original documents of the millions affected during the Partition of 1947.
Later, we visit some of the best foodie locations in Amritsar. Enjoy mouth-watering Punjabi dishes such as Amritsari kulche, lassi, maa di daal, jalebi, samose, and more! Punctuating the food are the stories of their origin which provide interesting insights into the history of Amritsar, their preparation methods, and cultural significance today.

Day 3: Delhi, Overnight
Depending on your flight arrangements, enjoy the day at leisure before transfering to the airport for our flight to Delhi. When arriving we will transfer to either the Pride Plaza Hotel Aerocity, or the ITC Welcomhotel Dwarka for our final night in India.

Day 4: Depart Delhi / Arrive UK
It’s time to say farewell to this amazing country. Our flight departs Delhi in the morning, arriving in the UK this evening.
